In this talk I will give an overview of the work regarding aspects of the SYK model beyond the commonly used approximations, in particular the replica-diagonal assumption and the conformal limit. We will discuss novel  solutions of the saddle point equations in the SYK and their role in physics of the model, quantum chaos and in the gravity dual description. We will focus on the replica-nondiagonal saddle points and their role in the phase structure of the model, fine-grained quantum chaotic properties and dual gravity description.
