Women in Physics Public Lecture Pt.1: "Science, Scholarship and Snacks"
Mildred Dresselhaus (MIT)
Join the Nano/Bio Interface Center for an afternoon of talks highlighting recent and ongoing nano-scale research presented by:
- Judith Kandel, PhD Candidate, Bioengineering, Mitochondrial DNA mutants show altered cytoskeletal and nanomechanical properties (David Eckmann’s Group)
- Carl Naylor, PhD Candidate, Physics & Astronomy, MX2: from monolayer growth to sensor application (A.T. Charlie Johnson’s Group)
- Mike Norton, PhD, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics, Growth and Transport of Nanobubbles in Tapered Channels (Haim Bau’s Group)
- Yanfei Wang, PhD Candidate, Chemistry, Investigating Nano-cages and Nanoporous Structures with Hyperpolarized Xenon-129 NMR Spectroscopy (Ivan Dmochowski’s Group)
After Q&A related to the talks, the session will be opened up for an informal discussion with Professor Mildred Dresselhaus on any topics of interest to the participants. We imagine this conversation will span science to society to the personal and how to navigate careers. We think this opportunity will be most relevant for early career researchers (graduate students and postdocs), but anyone who would like to see these talks and interact with Professor Dresselhaus in this informal forum is invited to attend.
Please RSVP here. Please come prepared with questions and topics you’d like to discuss with Professor Dresselhaus. There is a nice feature about her in the IEEE Spectrum that may be of interest to those of you planning to attend. We appreciate your help in spreading the word about this session - it came together quickly and there's not much time to get the word out. Thank you!
