The 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics was awarded to researchers from the ATLAS, CMS, ALICE, and LHCb Experiments at CERN! The $3 million prize (ATLAS ($1 million), CMS ($1 million), ALICE ($500,000), LHCb ($500,000)) recognized measurements that tested the Standard Model, that precisely probed properties of the Higgs boson, elucidating mechanisms by which the Higgs field gives mass to elementary particles, and that set strong bounds on possibilities for new physics beyond the Standard Model, including dark matter, supersymmetry and hidden extra dimensions.
Congratulations especially to our ATLAS faculty, Joe Kroll, Evelyn Thomson, Elliot Lipeles, Dylan Rankin, and Brig Williams, who, along with their PhD Students, Post-docs, and Technical Staff, have led these efforts!!
